Some projects are not websites. They are software that happens to run in a browser: something people log into, work inside, and rely on to get a job done.
BrightStack Digital designs and develops custom web applications of this kind, covering the interface, the frontend architecture and the server-side work needed to connect data and services.
Capabilities
The dividing line is behaviour rather than size. A marketing website presents information. An application holds state, responds to input and changes what it shows based on who is using it.
Frontend work covers the interface itself: component structure, state, routing, form handling, loading and error states, and behaviour across screen sizes.
Full stack work covers what sits behind it — data access, server-side logic, integrations and the endpoints the interface depends on. Both can be taken on together, or the frontend can be built against an API another team owns.
Applications are usually only useful once they are connected to something else: a payment provider, a CRM, an email platform, an internal database or an existing service.
Integration work covers reading from and writing to those systems, handling failure sensibly, and keeping credentials server-side. Where an application needs accounts and permissions, authentication and access control are treated as part of the build rather than an afterthought.
Application performance is a different problem to website performance. It depends on how data is fetched, how much work happens on the client, and how the interface behaves while it waits.
The structure is kept deliberately plain — clear boundaries, predictable data flow, room to add features without rewriting — so the application can grow without becoming difficult to change.
Application work begins with the job the software has to do and who it has to do it for. That conversation defines the data involved, the systems it has to connect to, and what the first usable version needs to cover.
Scope is set against that first usable version rather than an exhaustive feature list, so the application can be put in front of real users earlier.
Yes. That includes dashboards, portals, internal tools and customer-facing application interfaces, built as frontend work or as a full stack project.
Yes. Integration with payment providers, CRMs, email platforms, internal databases and other APIs is a normal part of application work.
Yes. If the backend exists, the work can be limited to the interface and the layer that talks to your API.
A website mainly presents information. An application holds state, handles input and changes behaviour per user, which means different requirements around data, permissions and testing.
Send through a short outline of the project on the contact page. The next step is a discovery conversation, followed by a written scope and price before any work begins.

Tell me about your project. Whether it’s a new website, a redesign or custom functionality.
If you’re ready to create something considered and effective, tell me what you have in mind.
After our first conversation, I’ll outline the requirements, scope and next steps before anything moves forward.
